Producers Joe Claussell and Dele Sosimi dish up true Afro Beat grooves on Ibadan records.
New York City in the late 90s, with the surge of interest in Afro Beat at the time, perfectly set the scene for an impromptu jam session with producers keyboard player Dele Sosimi of Fela Kuti’s band Egypt 80. The resulting contemporary Afro Beat record, produced by Joe Claussell (of the legendary Body & Soul series) and Dele Sosimi, features trap drums played in a true Afro Beat groove, not an easy feat to master but pulled off in lively fashion by Ola Jagun, another Fela Kuti associate. Kurt Rosenwinkle’s sublimely mellow guitar riffs round out the mix in counterbalance to Sosimi’s intriguing Rhodes.
